Apple is out of runway on one of its September promises, and the iOS 27.2 release candidate seeded to developers this week is the proof.
Build 24B115, seeded Monday, is effectively the final test build before a public release expected within days. Its headline feature is the one with a clock on it: Siri AI expands to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Apple promised back on September 14 that those five languages would arrive in October, and October ends in eleven days. If the public release lands this week as expected, Apple keeps the promise by a margin you could measure in hours, according to iClarified.
That the RC notes reportedly don't list the languages as a feature is a telling bit of theater — Apple committed to a month, not a version number, and it is delivering on the strictest possible reading of its own words. One wrinkle worth noting: Siri AI still isn't available in the EU on iPhone, so users in France, Portugal, and Spain will remain on the outside looking in regardless.
The RC is also a study in what Apple was willing to sacrifice to make the window. The redesigned Health app — with its Insights and Longevity tabs and Health Age feature — appeared in earlier 27.2 betas, then got pulled in beta 4 and stays out of the release candidate. Apple pulling a marquee feature this late in the cycle is unusual, and it is almost always a sign the feature needs more time rather than that it is in trouble. If anything, it signals how significant the Health redesign is: Apple would rather delay it than ship it half-baked. Watch for it to resurface in the first iOS 27.3 beta, possibly as soon as next week.
The rest of 27.2 is a collection of smaller but genuinely noticeable changes: profiles in the Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad (so your partner's reality-TV binge stops polluting your recommendations), one-tap contextual suggestions in Messages, a monochrome Apple Music icon with the red drained out in favor of blue accents, anniversary alerts in Call Context, and an expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt in the EU. Group FaceTime Dual Capture rounds out the camera side.
The timing matters beyond the deadline. The iPhone Duo goes on sale Friday, October 23, and many buyers may never get their hands on one before iOS 27.2 is on their existing phone. That means 27.2, not the Duo's launch software, is the version most people will first experience Apple's most ambitious Siri language expansion in. Apple built a release candidate around that moment — minus the Health app it wasn't ready to bet on.
