X says it has taken down more than 13,000 accounts tied to three suspected foreign influence operations aimed at US political debate ahead of the 2026 midterms, The Register reports.

In a post Wednesday evening, X linked the operations to Iran, Russia, and China. It said the networks used inauthentic accounts to post and amplify political content about candidates and public figures across the political spectrum. X didn't publish evidence backing up the attribution.

"People come to X to talk about what's happening in the world, including the upcoming 2026 US midterms," the company said, adding that its "job is to keep that conversation authentic, open, and safe."

X also pointed to its Civic Integrity policy, which covers misleading claims about how, when, and where to vote. Reports filed under that policy get routed into requests for Community Notes, and X says it may label posts in critical cases. That crowdsourced approach has drawn scrutiny before, including from the European Commission, and it leans on volunteers after X cut much of its moderation staff following Elon Musk's takeover.
