The iPhone Duo's two-week exclusivity window on new StandBy features is already over. Apple confirmed to MacRumors that iOS 27.3 will expand the Duo's new StandBy faces to every iPhone compatible with the update — that's the iPhone 11 and newer.

For the uninitiated: StandBy turns a charging iPhone in landscape into a bedside clock with glanceable extras. (On the Duo it goes further, working folded like a book or tent even off the charger — that part stays exclusive.) What's coming to everyone:

  • Rebuilt Analog and Digital Clock faces with more color choices and complication options
  • A Photos face that can finally pull from Shared Albums, not just your own library
  • Two brand-new faces: Calendar and Weather
  • Multiple saved versions of each face type, swipable like watch faces

This is the part of Apple's playbook worth watching. The Duo launched as the showcase device, but the software that made it feel new is being democratized almost immediately. It's the same move Apple made with Dynamic Island features and Apple Intelligence itself: the halo product proves the concept, then the installed base gets it.

StandBy has always been one of those features people discover by accident and then can't live without — the nightstand clock that also shows tomorrow's weather. Giving it Calendar and Weather faces plus real customization turns it from a novelty into something closer to a smart display. And with a $299 HomeView smart display launching November 13, Apple clearly wants the iPhone you already own to feel like part of the same ambient-computing story.

The features are in today's iOS 27.3 developer beta. Public release in December.
